We are able to represent clients either on a privately or publicly funded basis, though in many cases we can tailor the funding arrangement to meet your circumstances. Fixed fees are also available in some areas of work. Indeed, we offer a very competitive fixed fee for straightforward uncontested divorce proceedings* at £500 plus VAT and disbursements (expenses) for the Petitioner, and £300 plus VAT and any disbursements for the Respondent. *subject to status
At your appointment, we will assess your eligibility for Public Funding (formerly known as Legal Aid). If you are not eligible, then your initial consultation will be FREE.
We do not place any fixed time limit as such on your first appointment but by way of guidance you can probably expect this to last for between 30 - 45 minutes
Sometimes, you will be required by The Legal Services Commission to make a contribution towards your funding. Also, if you recover any money or property as a result of the work we do for you, you will generally be required to repay any legal aid costs at the end of your case when you receive the money or property. This is known as the “Statutory Charge”.
You can get a good idea as to whether or not you will be eligible for Public Funding by following this link which will take you directly to an eligibility calculator on The Community Legal Advice website: Legal aid eligibility calculator
If you are ineligible for Public Funding, then we can discuss private paying arrangements with you, including more creative options if

appropriate, such as fixed fees, ‘postponed’ costs or loan arrangements and/or the setting up of Standing Orders to help spread the cost of your case.
We believe in being fully transparent about our fees and will provide you with as comprehensive information as we can at the outset of your case as to our hourly rates and an overall cost estimate, broken down as to our fees, any disbursements (expenses we may have to pay on your behalf such as Court fees, report fees, Barrister’s fees etc) and VAT thereon. As your case progresses, we will provide you with regular cost updates. We will also submit interim bills as appropriate. When we do so, you will receive a narrative describing the work done, as well as a detailed computerised breakdown detailing how every penny of your bill has been calculated.
