Cost Estimates

Each case will be given a cost estimate tailored to the individual case but broadly, each type of work can be expected to be as set out below. It is very difficult to estimate how much your overall costs will amount to as this depends how much work is carried out on your behalf and how your matter progresses. However, for the different types of work, we would reasonably expect your cost to be in the region of:-

Divorce Petitioner £500 to £1,000 + VAT plus court fee currently £550

Divorce Respondent £300 to £500 + VAT

Finances & Property

Finances (court proceedings not issued) £2,000 to £3,000 + VAT

Finances (court proceedings issued) £3,000 to £5,000 + VAT plus court fee currently £255

Cases involving children

Children (court proceedings not issued) £1,000 to £2,000 + VAT

Children (court proceedings issued) £2,000 to £3,000 + VAT plus court fee currently £215

In addition to personal finances, there can be other options to fund a divorce or separation.

Divorce Loans

Clients of Family Law Consultancy can seek funding for their case from Novitas Loans, the leading provider of divorce loans. With the demise of Legal Aid, credit from banks becoming increasingly difficult to obtain, and the cost of divorce often being an unbudgeted expense, cash flow can be challenging for people ahead of receiving their divorce settlement.

Although the loan service is intended for divorce cases in the main, it may be possible for Novitas to fund other types of cases, depending on your financial circumstances.

The Novitas loan service is designed to run alongside your legal proceedings and pay for your legal fees, including expenses such as court fees or barrister’s fees, so that you don’t have to find the cash up front but can repay the loan upon receipt of your settlement.

For more information about the Novitas divorce loan service, please see the Novitas website at

Please note that Novitas is a completely separate company to Family Law Consultancy and we do not receive any payment from Novitas, nor are we able to recommend other loans or funding options that may be available to you and would recommend that you take independent financial advice accordingly.

If you would be interested in using the Novitas divorce loan service to fund your case, we would ordinarily require an advance payment of an administrative fee of £100 inclusive of VAT, for assisting you with the application process. However, in some circumstances, it may be possible to add this to your loan.
